HERE THERE BE DRAGONS

The Lair of Dekafox

Who am I?

Hello there! (General Kenobi...) My name is Dekafox, and you've found my little lair on the web.

I've been among furry since the 1990s, and dragonkin since '06. (If you're curious what that means, check out this FAQ, and the About Me page!) I do tend to commission quite a bit of art of myself and my characters. which you'll find a good portion of herein.

I've also played tabletop RPGs since the 90s, and have managed to put together a decent stable of various characters that live on; some well after their campaign or story has finished, while others have yet to find a chance to truly shine. Some are from familiar settings, while others are not bound to any. You'll find their profiles here as well.

However you found this site, and whatever your reason may be for coming here, I hope you find it interesting!

Why this website?

I know this is something that quite a few people may wonder about these days. Back in the early 2000s it was the thing to do, then the rise of social media(that wasn't Usenet) made things far easier for people to have their own little slice of internet about themselves without all the rigamarole to coding their own website.

First, as we've been reminded over the past couple years, it's extremely easy for some rich dude to come along and buy out your favorite website and turn it into something you want no part in. Open sourced and distributed places like the Fediverse* help, but any centralized gallery or social media site is vulnerable to this. The only way to guarantee your own corner of the internet is safe is to own it and do it yourself. If all the furry gallery sites were closed overnight, and all the socials suddenly disappeared, I'd still have this. There was a time before all of them; their existence is not guaranteed.

The other reason? I like showing off the various characters I've created over the years, but there's no real good place to share them. There's toyhou.se which is kind of designed for that thing, but there's so much there that it's easily lost in the shuffle and buried, and places like WorldAnvil are more meant for GMs and such. Here, I can have them all in one place, organized how I want, and not hidden among a million or more other creations of others - especially when there's a constant influx of new ones. The spotlight is all mine, to shine on whatever and whomever I wish.

*On the Fediverse, I only really use Mastodon, but there's a lot more there, such as Lemmy, a reddit-alike, Matrix, a Discord equivalent, or Misskey, a gallery or Tumblr equivalent. All run by inividual site admins who can do what they want, and they all interconnect - for example, if I wanted to I could follow a Lemmy "subreddit" from a Mastodon account and see all the posts on my Mastodon timeline. And given it's all run by many different individual people, it'd be impossible for every single instance to be bought out.

What can I find here?

Here is where you'll find any ramblings or wisdom I wish to share with the world. My writings here are meant to be timeless for the most part, unlike a traditional blog post.

A dragon naturally likes to show off! Here you can view all the various images of myself I've commissioned. Well, a good portion of them anyways. As much as I'd like to show off the spicy stuff as well, for that you'll have to visit one of my other galleries!

Over the many, many years I've played RPGs, both online and off, I've developed quite a few original characters. Those that I am fondest of, and return time and again, can be found in the section labeled Iconics, whatever their world of origin may be. Others have had less importance or development, but still deserve to be shared, and have their own section.

Where else can you find me?

These days I am primarily on Mastodon as my social media of choice, typically on meow.social. I did use Twitter at one point, but the current ownership has sent it in a direction I do not agree with, and I never really gelled with any of the others, though I may look at Bluesky one day. As to the aforementioned art galleries, Furaffinity is the one I visit the most, though I also upload to galleries on SoFurry, Weasyl, and Furry Network.

If you are in doubt whether an account is mine, simply refer to dekafox.art, where I plan to keep an ongoing catalog. If it's not on there, it may be a scammer or impostor. I don't know that I'm well-known enough to warrant such, but in the modern online world, it never hurts to take precautions!
